Dr. Marc Ruel, the esteemed past President of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, was awarded the honour of delivering the 2023 William W. L. Glenn Lecture at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia earlier this week, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine.
On Sunday, November 12, Dr. Ruel delivered his lecture, “A Crucial Time and Role for Surgeons in Cardiovascular Therapeutics,” which summarized his expertise and insights garnered over years of dedicated service. As a renowned cardiac surgeon, he addressed the pivotal role surgeons play in advancing cardiovascular therapeutics, particularly during such a crucial point in medical history.
The William W. L. Glenn Lecture, established in 1989, pays tribute to the legacy of Dr. Glenn, a trailblazing cardiac surgeon whose work significantly influenced the treatment of both congenital and acquired heart diseases.
Dr. Ruel’s lecture underscored the importance of collaboration between surgeons and other healthcare professionals in navigating the complexities of cardiovascular therapeutics, setting the tone for a team-focused approach to the pursuit of excellence in the field.
Congratulations to Dr. Ruel on this well-deserved recognition.
