The CCS extends our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ariane Marelli on her recent appointment as the Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health for a term of four years, effective on April 1, 2024. Dr. Marelli’s exceptional contributions to the Canadian cardiovascular profession, coupled with her extensive work in congenital heart disease, make her the ideal candidate for this esteemed role. She is a Professor of Medicine at McGill University, Associate Member of the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health and a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre.
Dr. Marelli has been an active CCS member for several years and is the immediate Past President of the Canadian Adult Congenital Heart Network, a CCS Affiliate society. She has served on the Canadian Cardiovascular Affiliate Senate, the Scientific Planning Committee for the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (CCC), and has been involved in the development of CCS ACHD Guidelines.
For a number of years, CIHR has funded the CCS Trainee Program and Trainee Luncheon at CCC, provided travel grants for CCS Trainees to attend CCC, and hosted joint distinguished and mid-career lectures with CCS. Join us in celebrating Dr. Marelli’s well-deserved achievement, as we eagerly anticipate the innovative initiatives she will lead and look forward to a continued successful partnership with CIHR.
