The heart can also have trouble relaxing which allows blood to flow back from the lungs to the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"c3i-dashboard\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">What is the burden of heart failure? <\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>750,000 Canadians living with HF.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 in 3 Canadians touched by HF.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&gt;100,000 Canadians diagnosed with HF annually.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&gt; $2.8 billion\/year in healthcare costs by 2030.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#3\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One of the top reasons for hospital admissions in Canada.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#4\">4<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Worse survival than patients with some common cancers.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#5\">5<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#6\">6<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#7\">7<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"c3i-dashboard\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">What challenges do we face with heart failure? <\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>4 in 10 Canadians do not understand what <a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/app\/uploads\/2021\/05\/2021-HF-Gui-PG-EN-2.pdf\">heart failure<\/a> is.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&lt;70% eligible Canadian patients on recommended medications.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#8\">8<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#9\">9<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#10\">10<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#11\">11<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#12\">12<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&lt;30% eligible Canadian patients achieving target medication doses.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#8\">8<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#9\">9<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#10\">10<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#11\">11<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#12\">12<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 in 5 Canadian HF patients return to hospital within 30 days of last visit.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/heart-failure\/#1\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30-day readmission rate has not changed in the last decade despite significant advances in medical therapy.<sup><a href=\"#13\">13<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&gt;60% of HF costs spent on in-patient care in the US (Vs. 7% spent on medications).<sup><a href=\"#14\">14<\/a><\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"c3i-dashboard\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">What is the CCS doing to address gaps in heart failure care?
