The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) recently announced that Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) member Dr. Rob Beanlands has been appointed as its next President and Chief Executive Officer for a term of five years beginning on April 1, 2024. The CCS offers our sincere congratulations to Dr. Beanlands on this well-deserved role and recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Beanlands is the current Deputy Director General and former Head of Cardiology at the UOHI. He has been a member of the CCS for more than 20 years. He has played an active role in the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, serving as both CCC Annual Meeting Chair and Scientific Program Chair. He has also served on many CCS committees and working groups and has been a mentor to many of our trainees over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2022, Dr. Beanlands received the CCS Annual Achievement Award, one of the annual CCS Recognition Awards presented during the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress. The award was presented by Dr. Marc Ruel, CCS Past President. Below is Dr. Ruel\u2019s introduction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDr. Beanlands has made extensive contributions to the fields of cardiology and nuclear cardiology. He is an international leader in cardiovascular nuclear imaging and the founding and current Director of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute\u2019s National Cardiac PET Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Beanlands\u2019 clinical practice focuses on outpatient and inpatient general cardiology as well as nuclear imaging. He is an expert in defining inflammatory conditions of the heart such as cardiac sarcoidosis. His research applies imaging to understand cardiovascular disease and treatment. He has well over 200 peer-reviewed publications. Among his work with professional associations, Dr. Beanlands has served as CCS Annual Meeting Chair and Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. Throughout his career, he has continued to strive for patient-centred care and continuous quality improvement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
