{"id":132454,"date":"2023-09-29T12:27:09","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=132454"},"modified":"2023-09-29T13:49:46","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T17:49:46","slug":"ccs-statement-national-day-for-truth-and-reconciliation-2023","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ccs.ca\/news\/ccs-statement-national-day-for-truth-and-reconciliation-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"CCS Statement \u2013 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This week is a time to reflect on the impacts of our history, including the former residential school system, the sixties scoop, and numerous other policies that have negatively impacted First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a time to pause and reflect on our commitment at the CCS, alongside our members at health institutions and heart health teams, to advancing truth and reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please take some time to review the 94 Calls to Action developed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca\/eng\/1450124405592\/1529106060525#chp2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada<\/a> and reflect specifically on your response to recommendations 18-24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can we start Truth and Reconciliation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Have meaningful land acknowledgements at the start of team meetings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check in on your Indigenous colleagues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wear orange on September 30 to honour the thousands of residential school survivors and bring awareness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edi.nih.gov\/blog\/communities\/be-ally\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn how to become an ally<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Become educated about truth and reconciliation and the path forward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The CCS is pleased to extend an opportunity to access an educational module focused on Indigenous health: <a href=\"https:\/\/linkprotect.cudasvc.com\/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fnvisiongroup.ca%2fwp-content%2fuploads%2f2022%2f11%2fThe-Path-Info-Sheet.pdf&amp;c=E,1,Gwq0v-kYSI3MBuHHTPtBcjpgTtHnQN_mMzlHtUBld7s9ZEtDlagwyffU6VHYGk7WA7y0I79SJuup5ezvTR-m-uB2grk1U6fduwbufYZ8d5NW6UuE&amp;typo=1\"><em>The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada<\/em><\/a><em>\u2122<\/em>, developed by a majority Indigenous-owned consulting company, <a href=\"https:\/\/nvisiongroup.ca\/\">NVision Insight Group<\/a>. Guided by an Indigenous Advisory Group and the Canadian Medical Association, they created a custom module that examines systemic discrimination in health care and the importance of understanding traditional Indigenous healing and wellness. The CMA is now partnering with NVision to make this module available to our members at a reduced cost. Please note, 10% of every seat sold will be donated to an Indigenous-led charity.
