CCS/CCSA Trainee Review Program

CCS/CCSA Trainee Review Programs (TRPs) a resounding success!

Through the work of the CCS Trainee Committee, CCS trainees identified the RCPSC examination preparation as a critical milestone in the transition from “school to work”. Hence the CCS/CCSA Trainee Review Programs was established. The TRPs provide trainees with realistic exposure to the examination process and offer an opportunity for feedback from faculty. It places their knowledge and exam writing skills to the test and provides them with an overview of all aspects of the exam. In addition, they have the opportunity to network with program faculty and fellow trainees from across Canada. Click on the links below to view TRP activities from 2009

2009 Adult Cardiology Trainee Review Program

TRP2009

The fourth offering of the Adult Cardiology Trainee Review Program was held May 1-3, 2009, in Toronto. There were 49 out of 56 third-year trainees in attendance. The program again was an extremely valuable opportunity for third-year Adult Cardiology residents to prepare for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada – Examination in cardiology.

We would like to thank the Adult Cardiology TRP Planning Committee members who provided their time and leadership in developing and running this program:

Dr. Simon Jackson, Chair
Dr. Michael Freeman

Dr. Michael Froeschl
Dr. Chris Johnson

Dr. Sarah Ramer
Dr. Stuart Smith
Dr. Fanus de Villiers

2009 Pediatric Cardiology Trainee Review Program

The third offering of the Pediatric Cardiology Trainee Review Program was held May 1-3, 2009, in Toronto. This year, there were 6 attendees representing programs from Vancouver, Alberta, Toronto, Montreal Children's and Halifax. The group included 3 third-year and 1 second-year trainees and 2 first year trainees.

TRP2009

“Just like last year, the feedback this year was overwhelmingly positive. Trainees regard this course as "extremely invaluable" and the words "excellent" are written on numerous evaluations. Through the weekend, the residents repeatedly affirmed the value of this program, and were very appreciative of the faculty and the CCS and CCSA's commitment to it. The TRP meets the needs of the trainees. I believe a less tangible but probably the most long standing benefit of the TRP is that it brings together the future pediatric cardiologists in Canada. It establishes the contacts and hopefully fosters friendships that will build a stronger national pediatric cardiology organization, supporting the CCS, in the future.”

Kenny Wong, Pediatric TRP Chair

The CCS and CCSA wish to thank the Pediatric Cardiology TRP Planning Committee for putting together this outstanding program:

Dr. Kenny Wong, Chair
Dr. Anne Fournier
Dr. Fraser Golding
Dr. Luc Jutras
Dr. Jennifer Russell
Dr. Shi-Joon Yoo

The 2010 Pediatric Cardiology Trainee Review Program will be will be held May 7-9, 2010 in Toronto.

TRP2009

The introduction of the Cardiac Surgery Trainee Review Program in 2008 was a great success. The second program was held April 3-4th 2009 in Montreal. There were 28 Cardiac Surgery residents in attendance of which 11 are scheduled to write the exam this year. This year the program was also opened to 5th year trainees and provided them with much appreciated exposure to the oral examination process.

The CCS and CCSA wishes to extend a genuine thank you to faculty members for their contribution and for providing an outstanding learning opportunity for Canada's Cardiac Surgery Trainees:

Dr. Yoan Lamarche, Chair
Dr. Anson Cheung
Dr. Philippe Demers
Dr. Roy Masters
Dr. Pierre Pagé
Dr. Michel Pellerin

The 2010 Cardiac Surgery Trainee Review Program will be held April 9-10, 2010 in Montréal.
