|Peter Guerra is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the Montreal Heart Institute and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Montreal. He completed his internal medicine and cardiology training at McGill University and subsequently became a fellow in the electrophysiology program at the Montreal Heart Institute. He then spent two years at the University of California in San Francisco where he specialized in atrial fibrillation ablation. Since returning to Montreal in 1999, his research interests have centered on novel techniques for atrial fibrillation ablation, including new imaging modalities and energy sources such as beta-radiation and cryothermy. He has been highly involved in teaching
of the residents and fellows, and was a member of the education committee of the Montreal Heart Institute and was head of the electrophysiology training program. He was named chief of cardiac electrophysiology at the Montreal Heart Institute in 2006. He is an active participant in the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society. From October 2008 to 2010 he was president of the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society and is still involved in the Education Committee. He presently chairs the Royal College Committee for the diploma program in Electrophysiology. As of July 2014, he is the head of the Medicine and Cardiology Departments at the Montreal Heart Institute.
